Violin & VIOLA STUDIO

"In my lessons I offer beginner through professional level instruction, audition and festival preparation, college/career guidance, and teach my students to think critically about the music they perform.  Intermediate/Advanced lessons include music theory, music history, chamber music coaching, and music business training.  I teach Irish, Bluegrass, and Old-Time fiddling, modern electric rock violin, improvisation, and songwriting and emphasize the connection between these expressive performance styles and classical training.  No matter the repertoire I focus on developing healthy classical technique as this improves tone, skill, and prevents injuries."

Instructor Amelia Thornton

RECITALS

Each term, Artwork Strings Music Studios will present a Studio Recital.  The locations are to be determined, but we shall collaborate as a studio with some of Missoula’s great performance spaces.  Students may also be invited to take part in holiday chamber performances, fiddle jams, farmer’s market performances, and charitable outreach performances.  Performances are not mandatory for every student every term and the decision to perform will be an agreement between the teacher, parents, and student.  University-track students are required to perform a solo or chamber piece at least once per term.

Hiring a Piano Accompanist for the Studio Recital is the responsibility of the student.  I can accompany beginners with guitar or violin, but advanced students are encouraged and sometimes required to hire a pianist.  Artwork Strings Music Studio recommends working with our piano instructor, Adam Sears.
